This afternoon, the Edmonton Oilers announced the broadcast details for Game 4 of their series between our boys and the Chicago Blackhawks, and for the first time since Game 1, we’ll actually be watching a game before the late-night slot.
For a lot of hockey fans, the fact that the Oilers were slotted in as the final game of the day for both Monday and tonight meant that many of them had to miss Connor McDavid’s brilliance. Thankfully, they won’t have that same issue with the earlier start on Friday. Not that I mind staying up late to watch the playoffs, but I do love the idea of more hockey fans around the continent getting a chance to see the clinic that our captain is putting on and you’d have to think the NHL is well aware of that opportunity as well. Even cruising around Twitter today, I noticed plenty of eastern fans complaining about the 8:30pm MT start for this evening’s contest and I’m happy for them (and others with adult jobs) that they won’t have to wait nearly as long for what could end up being a deciding game on Friday night.
In other news, I will also report that Friday’s 50/50 will be opening up at 9am, which is an important detail seeing as today’s edition was maxed out with more than six hours to go until puck drop. Absolutely hilarious.
