It looks like the Oilers have signed Dominik Kahun

One of them, Dominik Kahun, seems to have found a job here in Edmonton. According to the German outlet Eishockey News, the Oilers and Kahun have agreed to a one-year deal.
National player Dominik Kahun moves from the Buffalo Sabers to the Edmonton Oilers. He will sign a one-year contract there. The learned Hockey NEWS on Sunday evening from his agent Jiri Poner. Kahun, whose contract had expired after the season, had gone from Restricted to Unrestricted Free Agent because the Sabers hadn’t made the qualification offer.In Edmonton he meets his friend and national team colleague Leon Draisaitl, with whom he already played with the young eagles Mannheim. “I’m delighted that the two friends can play together in Edmonton,” said his agent Jiri Poner. “Edmonton had the most interest besides Buffalo. The Sabers have chosen a different route. “
Kahun was born in the Czech Republic but grew up playing in Germany. He and Leon Draisaitl played junior hockey together before the latter came over to Canada to play in the WHL. In 2010-11, playing for Mannheimer’s U-16 team, Kahun scored 206 points while Draisaitl chipped in with 192 of his own. That’s pretty good.
The two of them have also played together internationally, representing Germany at both the World Juniors and at the World Hockey Championships.
Unlike Draisaitl, though, Kahun was never drafted by an NHL club. He played two seasons for the Sudbury Wolves, got passed over, and returned to Germany where he would play four seasons professionally in the country’s top league, the DEL.
After a strong showing for Germany at the 2018 Olympics, Kahun inked a free-agent contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. He scored 13 goals and 37 points over 82 games in Chicago and signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2019-20 season. He would put up 27 points in 50 games for the Penguins before getting dealt to Buffalo, where he would add four points in six games for the Sabres.
So, all told, Kahun has 25 goals and 68 points over 138 NHL games. He also boasts solid underlying numbers, as his team has outscored opponents 87-to-64 with him on the ice at even-strength.
I would guess this is a cheap, one-year deal, so there’s absolutely no going wrong here. Kahun has quietly been an effective NHL player over the past two seasons and perhaps some chemistry with an old friend can unlock another
