The Edmonton Oilers will be trying to bounce back from Monday’s 6-5 loss to Winnipeg when they close out their two-game home set with the Jets on Wednesday night as -140 favorites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton twice let a lead slip away in Monday’s defeat as -140 chalk, which also marked the club’s first loss in four home outings going into Wednesday night’s matchup at Rogers Place.
Jets vs Oilers | OddsShark Matchup Report
Monday’s defeat renews concerns about the Oilers’ ability to contain opposing shooters. The team showed off a stout defense in three straight road victories ahead of its series-opening loss to Winnipeg, surrendering just three total goals. However, contests on home ice have been far more wide open, with the Oilers surrendering an average of four goals per game over their past five outings.
Fortunately, the Oilers offense has been up to the task, averaging almost five goals per game during that stretch, and powering a 4-1 run for the OVER on the totals at online sports betting sites in those contests. More of the same could be in store on Wednesday night, as high scoring has emerged as a consistent theme when these two teams meet. Six or more total goals have been scored in nine of their past 14 matchups, including each of their three clashes to date this season.
However, that has not translated into winning results for Edmonton. The Oilers have earned the win in just three of 12 overall dates with the Jets, and have been being outscored by a wide 26-15 margin while dropping five of six on home ice.
Listed as +120 road underdogs for Wednesday’s contest, the Jets will be looking to build on Monday’s much-needed win on the road. Winnipeg has struggled to record consistent results so far this season. While the team has picked up the win in four of its past six overall outings, it has managed to tally consecutive victories just once in its past 10 games. In addition, the Jets’ back-to-back wins in Ottawa four weeks ago mark their only consecutive regular season victories away from Bell MTS Place in a year.
The Jets have potted four goals per game over their past four road dates after averaging just over two markers in their previous six regular season away contests. However, the status of Pierre-Luc Dubois remains uncertain heading into Wednesday, as he’s listed as doubtful with a lower-body injury. Dubois was acquired in a deal that sent winger Patrick Laine to Columbus.
