(Video) Yamamoto’s year in the Dub
The WHL just released a video on their official Twitter account comprised of Kailer Yamamoto highlights from this past season with the Spokane Chiefs and you should probably spend a few minutes watching.
Kailer Yamamoto has had quite the year. After being drafted 22nd overall back in June, Yamamoto unexpectedly started the season with the Oilers after seriously impressing during the pre-season. After a nine-game trial, Yamamoto was returned to the Spokane Chiefs where his return to the WHL was underwhelming at first, a fact that distressed some observers in Oilersnation. Fortunately, Yamamoto’s play and production shot skyward after returning from the World Juniors, a tournament that did not necessarily go the forward’s way.
In the 27 games played after returning from the WJC, Yamamoto caught fire and amassed a face-melting 52 points (19G, 33A). Yamamoto was crucial for the Chiefs down the stretch and helped propel them into the playoffs, resuming his post as one of the WHL’s most lethal forwards. For Oilers fans that are looking for silver linings after another disappointing season, Yamamoto’s strong finish showed the kind of skill that could potentially be coming to the lineup sooner than later.
