Making waves

We’re not above being self-serving some of the time. I mean, we’re pretty proud of what we’re doing, we’re proud of what the Mighty Oil are doing, and we’re proud of people like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for single-handedly adopting every child in the third world.
But if we could just zoom in on the local goings-on, a lot’s happened at Oilersnation.com in the past week. Robin Brownlee muscled us into running his articles, which he still claims are better than “any of the lame, pop-culture nonsense Wanye’s keen on running” (incidentally, that’s not a direct quote. Or a paraphrase. We actually assume this is what Brownlee’s thinking). But we’ve also benefited from the kindness of members of the Oilogosphere:
David Staples from the Edmonton Journal’s Cult of Hockey links to us frequently, even if we never actually told him who we were. He seems to like Brownlee, anyhow.
Andy Grabia from Battle of Alberta welcomed us to the Oilogosphere… Actually, that was just a shoutout to Brownlee as well:
“Former Sun and Journal columnist Robin Brownlee has entered the wild and crazy world of blogging, joining yet another Oilers site at Oilersnation.com. Brownlee has been busy since he joined the site late last week, already posting stories on Theo Peckham and Zack Stortini. Enjoy the BoA bump, Robin. You’re sure to get ten new anonymous posters now, each bragging about the beauty of the city of Vancouver and the prowess of the Canucks. Good luck with that.”
So did grease trap, in a round-about way, from Oilblobosphere:
“Oilers Nation, I fear thee.Is it just me, or does it seem strange to have what appears to be an overly slick, target-marketed, oh-so-hip new blog on the block that tries to lure readers in with it’s sometimes clever, mostly frat-house type humour and surprisingly good contributions by one Robin Brownlee?”
Awhile back, PunjabiOil had this to say about us:
“Hilarious. Great site.”
The kind folks at the Pipeline Show decided to add us to their blogroll.
Pat McLean from Black Dog Hates Skunks has us on his blogroll, too.
And even Dan Tencer from 630 CHED e-mailed us to tell us he thinks we’re pretty:
“Just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that I enjoy the site. You’ve created a nice blend of seriousness and fun. Kudos on keeping it updated around the clock…and it’s quite nice on the eyes, too. Can’t stand blogger or blogspot.”
So things are sunny this morning in the Nation. We feel a bit like Sally Field at her 1985 Oscar acceptance speech.
“You like us! You really like us!”
