Amid the shifting landscapes of not only the sports world and the sports media world, a new partnership between The Nation Network and Altitude investments is set to expand the companies already growing coverage of the NHL.
Nation Network co-founder Jay Downton said the new partnership will help push further expansion into the content space to millions of people around the world.
“We’re a bunch of team sites, a bunch of resource sites, but ultimately we want to become that 360 NHL content company,” said Downton, who noted that years of support from sponsors helped to make this deal possible. “They can see the mission that we’re going on and they feel very confident that by working with us and giving us the resources for what we’re going to do that we’re going to be unlocking this potential we both see out there.
“It’s going to allow us to hire more Canadian sports journalists, create a pathway for someone who is aspiring to join us at the team site level, there’s now a career path to join us at a league wide level. It’s going to allow us to create a pathway for people already in our network, and also people that are looking to get into sports journalism, or are sports journalists, to help them find a home and have an opportunity with us.”
Altitude will step in to help see through the expansion of the network with DailyFaceoff.com, who is already a leader in the fantasy hockey world, primed to add talented journalists in order to build out coverage of the National Hockey League.
DailyFaceoff has already made some exciting additions to their lineup in the recent months. OilersNation’s own Jason Gregor and TSN’s Frank Seravalli have launched the DFO Rundown podcast, a twice weekly look into the leaue and it’s happenings. Former NHL All-Star MVP John Scott’s Dropping the Gloves podcast also joined the network being hosted at hockeyfights.com.
The plan, Downton said, is to continue to build out that coverage.
“What this means is DFO will be building out a content team with a league-wide content strategy and a pretty intense news cycle that will be coming out of it,” he said. “It will allow us to do partnerships like we’ve done with Frank Seravalli launching the DFO Rundown, which has allowed us to prime the market about getting the DFO name (into the market).”
Chris LaBossiere, CEO of Altitude Investments, said he sees the company on the verge of taking off.
“At Altitude Investments our specialty is helping companies go through periods of strong growth,” he said. “We believe the Nation Network is on the verge of really taking off and the prospects for the company are very bright.
“As long time Citizens of the Nation Network we understand their focus and mission to build one of Edmonton’s great companies and export their love of hockey across the hockey world worldwide.”
This new partnership will allow Oilersnation to bolster its offering with added content and an improved website itself. It will also allow the company to work on its ultimate goal of creating a space for hockey fans to unite and share in an experience that they won’t get anywhere else, and do it within a community that loves the team just as much as they do.
The Nation Network was born right here in Edmonton in 2007, and has since grown to a 15-website network with over a billion pageviews served. The community has expanded around the world with millions of people reading the sites monthly.
