OIL KINGS IN EDMONTON

With the news today (via Bob Stauffer) that the Edmonton Oilers will invite Aaron Irving to training camp, the number of former Oil Kings to be under the NHL team’s umbrella is now nine. Here they are.
  1. D Griffin Reinhart. Drafted No. 4 in 2012, by the New York Islanders. Grant McCagg, TSN: Very few 6-4 blueliners can skate and handle the puck like
Reinhart, and those attributes alone will intrigue lots of scouts. Has a
hard point shot that often finds its mark, good passing skills.
Edmonton traded for him 2015 summer and he is one of the most discussed young players in the organization.
  2. D David Musil. Drafted No. 31 in 2011. Red Line had him No. 17 that season, saying David has excellent size and strength and plays a rugged brand of hockey
with a bit of a mean streak. He reads developing plays well and uses
anticipation to break up plays before they become dangerous. He’s got
good hockey sense in all three zones, but his offensive upside is
limited due to his mediocre point shot.
Musil remains in the system and is waiver eligible this fall.
  3. L Mitch Moroz. Drafted No. 32 in 2012, Red Line had him No. 102 that season, saying big, edgy power forward plays an in-your-face style and looks to initiate hard contact all over the ice. Moroz went on to complete a solid junior career, but has struggled in pro hockey.
  4. C Travis Ewanyk. Drafted No. 74 in 2011, Red Line had him No. 64 that season, calling him the quintessential power checking centre competes like a ******* every shift and is tough to play against. He did not develop as a pro player and was traded to Ottawa.
  5. R Cameron Abney. Drafted No. 82 in 2009. Big enforcer who broke his hand awhile after he was drafted, and his pro career ended in 2015. Edmonton dealt him to Toronto in the Mark Fraser trade in 2014—along with the rights to Teemu Hartikainen.
  6. D Martin Gernat. Drafted No. 122 in 2011, Red Line’s Radim Jelinek said Gernat is a smooth skater with fluid stride and decent footwork for his
size. Has very good vision and hands, moves the puck well, handles the
puck with confidence making solid decision with puck. Gernat had trouble finding his way as a pro, and the organization seemed to sour on his conditioning
    . Eventually traded.
  7. D Aaron Irving, Drafted No. 162 in 2014 (by Nashville). He was part of a dandy blue line in Edmonton that won the 2014 WHL championship and the Memorial Cup. I always liked his two-way game and the news today that he will be invited to rookie camp suggests the Oilers may see something in him.
  8. G Laurent Brossoit. Drafted No. 164 in 2011. He developed well in junior, and eventually turned pro in the Calgary organization (they drafted him). Craig MacTavish traded for him in November of 2013, and he has been the top pro prospect at the position since. Suspect he will be the NHL backup by this time next season.
  9. L Kristians Pelss. Drafted No. 181 overall in 2010. RIP.
Question for you: Who will be the best Oil King who also played for the Oilers organziation? PS: If I missed anyone, let me know!
