The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to make it three in a row as they kick off their first road trip of the season with a visit to Brooklyn, where they take on the New York Islanders on Tuesday as +140 underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton is poised to record its fastest season start in 11 years after the team opened its schedule with home victories over the Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings, and now takes a 2-0-0 record into Tuesday night’s matchup at Barclays Center.

Oilers at Islanders | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Oilers demonstrated character on opening weekend not often displayed last season. The club overcame third-period deficits in both its weekend victories, rebounding to record a 3-2 win over the Canucks as -130 chalk last Wednesday night before erasing one-goal deficits on four occasions in Saturday’s 6-5 win over the Kings as a -150 bet.
Not surprisingly, the duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have led the Oilers attack, tallying a combined 10 points through the first two games of the season. In addition, goaltender Mike Smith has been steady in his first two starts as an Oiler, particularly in last week’s date with the Canucks, turning aside 31 of 33 shots to seal the win.
The Oilers now open a four-game road trip gunning for their sixth win in eight meetings with the Islanders. However, that steady run is tempered by a history of shaky road performances against the Islanders, with Edmonton going 4-13-3 in 20 meetings since the start of the 1992/93 season.
The Islanders wrap up their first homestand of the season set as -160 favorites in Tuesday’s contest at sports betting sites. The club earned its first win of the season on Sunday, picking up a 4-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets as -140 chalk on the strength of a standout 35-save performance by goaltender Thomas Greiss.
Overall, New York has played stingy hockey on home ice since mid-March, surrendering just 1.58 goals per game in 12 regular season and playoff contests. And with the total going UNDER in seven of the Islanders’ past nine games, and four of Edmonton’s past six, a low-scoring affair could be in store in Brooklyn on Tuesday night.
