We go live to Bakersfield for the big news of the day: Some guy named Mitch Callahan who plays for the Bakersfield Condors has been suspended for 20 games for breaking the AHL’s Performance Enhancing Drug Policy.
Not only does Callahan exist, he is also signed to a two-year, two-way contract with the Oilers. Is there maybe a Callahan who played for the Oilers in the 80s? I don’t know.
The winger was drafted in the sixth round of the 2009 NHL draft by the Detroit Red Wings. He’s played five games at the NHL and a lot at the AHL level. This season with the Condors, Callahan has two goals and seven assists in 45 games. That’s not a good stat line for somebody who’s been juicing.
Peter Chiarelli issued a statement saying that the organization is confident that it was just a minor oversight and that Callahan will be back and playing after his suspension is over.
You may now resume your Tuesday.
