Oilers recall Gagner, assign Haas to AHL

The Edmonton Oilers announced Saturday afternoon the team has recalled Sam Gagner and assigned Gaetan Haas to the Bakersfield Condors.

Jason Gregor tweeted today that Gagner will join the team for the two-game road trip through Winnipeg and Minnesota.

Sam Gagner had a tough camp earlier this year before being waived and assigned to the Condors, but took the assignment in stride.

In four games with the Condors, Gagner scored two goals and added two assists. Haas has struggled early in his time in North America and has played only 39 minutes in five games.

His first NHL point came as an assist finding Joakim Nygard for his first NHL goal.

I think this is a move that will largely benefit both players. Gagner showed well scoring 10 points in 25 games last year and is a player who will likely be able to contribute some offense in the bottom-six.

Haas hasn’t been seeing much ice-time in the NHL averaging a little over eight minutes per game. In the American league, I could see that ice-time likely doubling as he joins a team where he will surely get some good developmental time.

I think he’s struggled a bit in adapting to the North American ice, so some extra seasoning down south will do him good.
