Oilers recall Griffin Reinhart from AHL, McLellan expects Klefbom will be available Sunday

7 years agoWith the Bakersfield Condors now eliminated from the AHL playoffs, the Edmonton Oilers have recalled reinforcements from their farm. Griffin Reinhart, the 2012 fourth overall pick who was acquired in a trade with the Islanders back in 2015, will join the Oilers today.
The immediate thing that comes to mind is that Reinhart is coming up to replace Oscar Klefbom, who left last night’s game in the second period after blocking a shot. But according to head coach Todd McLellan, the team expects Klefbom to be ready to go for Game 3 in San Jose on Friday.
It was reported yesterday by Darren Dreger that the Oilers were likely to recall Jesse Puljujarvi from the AHL, but that hasn’t happened yet. The Condors have one more game left in their regular season tonight against the San Jose Barracuda, meaning Puljujarvi and whoever else the Oilers want to have around during their playoff run will likely just join the team tomorrow. Reinhart was likely recalled earlier in order to have one practice with the team in the event that the team made a list-minute decision to keep Klefbom out of the lineup on Sunday.
“The 23-man roster limit is in place from the conclusion of the preseason until 12:01 am on the day of the NHL’s Trade Deadline. After that teams are allowed to have an unlimited active roster at the NHL level, provided players are signed to one of their 50 contract slots. NHL teams are only allowed to dress a maximum of 20 players – 18 skaters and two goaltenders – for any given game, but those 20 must come from the 23-player active roster.” Source
