Oilers sign Philip Broberg to entry-level deal

This shouldn’t come as a major surprise, but the Oilers have already inked their 2019 top pick Philip Broberg to an entry-level deal.
Broberg was selected by the Oilers eighth overall at the 2019 draft a couple of weeks ago. It’s very unlikely that he’ll play with the Oilers this season, but it isn’t uncommon for high draft picks to get signed to entry-level deals shortly after they’re drafted.
We still don’t know if Broberg is going to continue to play professionally in Sweden next season or if he’s going to come to North America. His Major Junior rights are held by the Hamilton Bulldogs, so that’s where he’d play if he wanted to come and spend the year getting accustomed to the North American game. As I said though, I highly doubt we see Broberg get even a nine-game cup of coffee at the NHL level as Ken Holland is notorious about bringing prospects along slowly.
