While the Oilers have effectively shut down opposing shooters during a six-game win streak on home ice, allowing just 10 total goals, the team has surrendered 3.17 goals per game during its 2-3-1 run on the road, capped by last week’s shutout loss in Montreal. Overall, Edmonton has dropped three of four to the Canadiens this season, while scoring just five total goals.
Despite their recent swoon, the Oilers have continued to produce uneven results in totals betting, with the OVER going 4-4-0 at betting sites in their past eight contests. The team has also spotted opponents early leads in recent road dates, allowing opponents to open the scoring in four of their past five overall contests, and giving up five total first-period goals over their past two road contests.
However, the Oilers have largely held the upper hand in recent years when battling the Canadiens on the road. The team has tallied wins in eight of its last 11 visits to Montreal since March 2010. As well, the Oilers have limited Canadiens shooters to two or fewer goals in four of their past six dates in Montreal. That run features a pair of shutout victories, including a 3-0 win back on February 11.
Listed as -130 home favorites for Monday night, the Canadiens will try to rebound from Saturday’s decisive 6-3 loss to the visiting Ottawa Senators. That defeat put the brakes on a steady three-game win streak, in which the Canadiens outscored opponents by a 13-5 margin. Montreal’s surge also provided the team with some much needed breathing room in the North Division standings, where they sit in control of fourth place, six points up on the beleaguered Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames.
