The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to establish their first four-game win streak since October 2019 when they rekindle their Battle of Alberta rivalry with the Calgary Flames on Saturday as +105 road underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Edmonton offense came alive during the team’s recent homestand. The team closed things out with two decisive wins over the slumping Ottawa Senators, and now sits deadlocked with Vancouver in fourth place in the North Division standings going into Saturday night’s matchup at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Oilers vs Flames | OddsShark Matchup Report
After struggling to find the back of the net over the first two weeks of the season, the Oilers look to have rediscovered their groove. The team has scored four or more goals in five of their past six contests, and 16 total markers during their current three-game tear. That marks a dramatic reversal of fortune after Oilers shooters tallied just 2.5 goals per game through the team’s first six outings.
While the spotlight has remained squarely focused on Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who racked up a combined 11 points in a decisive 8-5 victory over the Senators last Sunday, the supporting cast has also contributed. Jesse Puljujarvi picked up his first two goals since his return to Edmonton in Tuesday’s 4-2 win over the Senators, and rearguard Darnell Nurse also scored his first goal of the season in that contest.
However, the Oilers offense cannot afford to rest on its laurels with Calgary expected to have Jacob Markstrom between the pipes on Saturday night. Markstrom has been one of the few bright spots for the Flames, who enter Saturday’s matchup as -125 favorites at online sports betting sites. The 30-year-old backstopped the Flames to victory in two of his three starts on the team’s recent road trip, highlighted by a stellar performance in a 2-0 win in Montreal last weekend.
Markstrom has also regularly frustrated the Oilers in recent years, compiling an 8-3-1 record in his past 12 games against them, and limiting Edmonton shooters to just 17 total goals over his past eight appearances. But while Markstrom has lived up to his lucrative contract in his Calgary debut, the Flames have once again struggled to generate offense this season. The team has scored just 16 total goals during its current 2-5-0 run, generating a steady 4-2-1 run for the UNDER in totals betting during that stretch.
