The Edmonton Oilers will be hoping to overcome a worrisome slow start when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night as +130 underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton hits the road for the first time this season after suffering consecutive lopsided losses to the Montreal Canadiens, dumping the team’s overall record to 1-3-0 going into Wednesday night’s game at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

Oilers vs Maple Leafs | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Oilers’ early-season woes continued in Monday’s 3-1 loss to the Canadiens as -115 favourites at sports betting sites. Despite outshooting Montreal by a wide 12-6 margin, Edmonton once again came up empty in the opening frame, and has now scored just one total first-period goal through four outings.
The club has also remained heavily reliant on Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid for offensive production. The NHL’s leading point-getter last season, Draisaitl has yet to find the back of the net. McDavid tallied a hat trick that lifted the team to a 5-2 win over Vancouver last week, marking the only goals the Oilers captain has potted this season.
The Oilers’ dynamic duo has produced steadily in recent dates with Toronto, combining for two goals and 11 total points in their past three clashes. Edmonton also ended a seven-game losing streak against the Maple Leafs with a 6-4 victory in its last visit to Scotiabank Arena back in January 2020.
However, the Oilers have failed to record wins in consecutive visits to Toronto since 1988, going 8-22-3 since then. Edmonton has also been held to two or fewer goals in five of its last six road dates with the Maple Leafs. But with Toronto averaging almost 3.7 goals per game over that stretch, the OVER has prevailed in each of their past two road dates, and gone 5-3 over their past eight.
The Maple Leafs return home on a high after recording a 3-1 win in Winnipeg on Monday as -170 chalk to climb atop the North Division standings. After allowing nine total goals through their first two games, the Maple Leafs have settled down, allowing just three total goals in back-to-back wins over Ottawa and Winnipeg. The Toronto offense has also found its groove. The team has averaged 39 shots on goal over its past two games, while John Tavares and Mitch Marner have six points each on the season.
