The Edmonton Oilers have returned from their short Christmas break with a purpose and that was on full display over the weekend.
On Saturday despite a slow start, Edmonton fought back from 2-0 to tie game with two goals in the second period. With no goals in the third or overtime, a shootout was the only way to decide the difference between the two teams. An unlikely hero in Derek Ryan stepped up to give the Oilers two points.
The following night, the Oilers crushed the Anaheim Ducks 7-2 with five even strength points coming from Warren Foegele. Foegele became the first player to do that since Sam Gagner’s famous eight point game versus the Chicago Blackhawks in 2012.
It’s safe to say things are going much better now for the Oilers. Tonight, they have another tough test on their hands taking on the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers sit third in the Metropolitan Division, which is shocking considering most had them finishing last. Earlier in the season, these two teams duelled with the Flyers coming out on top.
