As far as season openers go, the Oilers couldn’t have done much worse than the 8-1 shellacking at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks. Even though it was only one game, Oilers fans were understandably pissed off about how things went, and now the question will be how the team rebounds in tomorrow’s rematch.
Kicking off the podcast, we started with a delicious debate about the most disappointing part about losing game one. Seeing as there were plenty of horrible things to pick from, we pointed out seemingly countless areas the Oilers will need to improve ahead of tomorrow’s rematch. Changing gears, we spent the next couple of minutes talking about yesterday’s autograph session at WEM and how hilarious it was to watch Woz finally get an autograph from Derek Ryan. From there, we walked through some of the news items that came out from the Oilers today, including the fact that the team is signing Adam Erne, Mattias Ekholm is expected to play tomorrow, and the hiring of Dani Rylan Kearney as a new pro scout. Obviously, knowing that Mattias Ekholm will be playing tomorrow is the thing we all wanted to talk about, but we also wondered what the plan is for Adam Erne and how he’s going to be used. Needless to say, this is a city that loves guys that crash and bang, and Erne is definitely one of those guys. How will this fit work out? We shall see. Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with another round of Ask the Idiots, Kennedy’s quote game, and Hot and Cold performers.
