I don’t want to be THAT guy, but today’s an important day in Oilers history that probably needs to be brought up again. On this day in Oilers history, we broke a ten year drought and clinched a spot in the post season for the first time since 2006.
Again I want to remind you… I’m just the messenger on this one and I’m sorry I have to bring it up.
The 2016-17 season was quite a trip am I right? It was filled with a whole lot of highs, and not a lot of lows. We continuously beat up on teams we’ve struggled to win against like Anaheim and Los Angeles. There was absolutely no fear heading into any arena and for the first time in years, teams were afraid to play us. What a time it was to be alive. And on March 28, 2017, it was solidified into stone. The Edmonton Oilers clinched their spot in the history books.

Anyone NOT get goosebumps when watching the video above? It was one of the greatest feelings in the world. I remember distinctly the day after we clinched the playoffs I went out and bought myself two car flags. It didn’t take long after that for the rest of the city to fill their vehicles up with flags too.
Want to hear something else that might make you cry? The night the Oilers clinched last year was Fan Appreciation Night! Funny how this all comes full circle right?
Obviously this season was a complete and utter shock compared to last years results, and I hope we never have to go through a decline in the standings like this again. Here’s to the post season next year and getting that winning feeling back. Eh?? Anybody??
