Put your money down now hockey fans, Team Canada’s odds to win Gold in the 2018 World Ice Hockey Championships just jumped up dramatically. As our good Swedish friend, Uffe Bodin reported earlier today, Oscar Klefbom spilled the beans and made it official that Connor will be suiting up in the red and white.
This news is unsurprising, but it still puts a smile on my face. Although I’d much rather watch Connor play for the Stanley Cup, seeing him in a Team Canada jersey is a great secondary. After a very disappointing year where we didn’t see any NHL players participate in the Olympics, the blessing in disguise of this year’s poor Oiler season is that Connor will STILL suit up for his country in May.
Now let’s all cross our fingers, toes, arms, and legs, and pray to the hockey gords that the Pittsburgh Penguins will get knocked out of the first round so that Sidney Crosby can join Connor in Denmark and become the hockey duo that the world wants to see. BOO PENGUINS!
In the interview that Swedish reporter, Anton Edman, had with Oscar Klefbom, Klef also exclaimed that he thinks Ryan Nugent-Hopkins plans on attending the World Championships as well. This will be Nuge’s second appearance in the World Hockey Championships. His first was in 2012 where Canada finished a disappointing fifth place. This will also be Connor’s second WHC appearance. He lead Team Canada to a Gold Medal in 2016 with the game winning goal in the finals against Finland.
The World Hockey Championships will be taking place from May 4 – May 20 in Denmark. Good luck gents!
