A day after the Edmonton Oilers found out where they would be picking when the 2020 entry draft happens this fall, rumours have already appeared about who the Oilers may take.
With the 14th overall pick, the Oilers will have plenty of options available to them that are appealing.
A mock draft done by The Athletic’s draft expert Corey Pronman has the Oilers selecting University of Wisconsin centre Dylan Holloway. Here’s what Pronman had to say of the selection:
“Holloway was a name I heard rumored that Edmonton liked but they didn’t seem to be in the mix range-wise, something that’s changed as a nature of the unique year. He’s a center but also can play on the wing and is an excellent skater who you could imagine skating with Connor McDavid and playing fast with him, although Holloway doesn’t have true top-end offensive touch. This is another potential landing spot for (goaltender Iaroslav) Askarov.”
And here’s another scouting report from Pronman on Holloway:
Holloway is a good skater who plays with a lot of energy. When he gets a full head of steam, his frame can be a handful to stop. He is hard on pucks and not afraid to get his nose dirty. Even if he is not a truly dynamic offensive player, there is enough skill in his game to be a quality NHL player.
Standing at 6’0, 192 lbs., Holloway just completed his first year of NCAA hockey where he scored eight goals and 17 points in 35 games.
The Calgary native played his junior hockey with the Okotoks Oilers  where in 81 games over two years he scored 51 goals and 115 points. It included a 40 goal, 88 point 53-game season in his final year that also earned him the AJHL’s MVP award before he made the early jump to the NCAA.
Holloway’s draft rankings are a little bit all over the place. He’s ranked by Elite Prospects at 18, Future Considerations at 15, ISS Hockey at 20, Craig Button at 14 and Bob McKenzie at 16.
There’s lots of time left until the draft, but Holloway will be a name to keep an eye on.
