Report: Edmonton Oilers prospect Raphael Lavoie likely to play in Bakersfield next year
By Zach Laing
4 years agoIt appears that the Bakersfield Condors will be getting a little run support in the offensive world next season as Raphael Lavoie gets set to turn pro.
According to the Edmonton Journal’s Jim Matheson, it’s likely that recently signed prospect Raphael Lavoie will be taking his talents to southern California next year.
Lavoie, who is in his fourth year playing junior with 82 points in 55 games — spending the first half of the season with Halifax before he was traded to Chicoutimi for four draft picks — will likely be in Bakersfield next season as a rookie pro. He’s got terrific tools with soft hands and an NHL frame at six-foot-four, 198 pounds, with things to work on like most juniors, unless your name is Connor McDavid.

The 6’4, 205 lb. power-forward with a wicked shot was inked to his entry-level deal by the Oilers on Saturday. He split time in the QMJHL last year with the Halifax Mooseheads and Chicoutimi Saguenéens scoring 38 goals and 82 points in only 55 games. He finished the QMJHL season 5th in goals and 9th in points.
In the long-run, I could see Lavoie slotting into Edmonton’s top-nine as a scoring threat and to be honest, he might be a great top-six winger in the future. Time will tell as the former second round pick is set to begin his professional hockey career later on in the year.
