Report: Jesse Puljujarvi has not asked for a trade from the Edmonton Oilers

By Zach Laing
8 months agoEdmonton Oilers forward Jesse Puljujarvi has not asked for a trade from the team, The Athletic’s Daniel Nugent-Bowman reported Saturday.
Nugent-Bowman poured cold water on recent news that the Oilers had been actively shopping the 24-year-old Finn.
Here’s some of what Nugent-Bowman reported about the relationship between the two sides:
Though right winger Jesse Puljujarvi’s days appear numbered with the Oilers and that very well could be the case, perhaps the brakes should be pumped a little bit.Holland said Puljujarvi has not asked for a trade out of Edmonton. Neither the club nor the player was pleased with how the final few months of the season went for the Finnish forward. Assessments on the situation are still ongoing.“He’s doing it and the club’s doing it,” Holland said.
Nugent-Bowman added that Puljujarvi is looking to remain in the Oilers’ top-six. A possible scenario, he added, could be lining Puljujarvi up alongside Warren Foegele and Ryan McLeod on the the third line allowing the Finn to work his way up the lineup.
If the Oilers and Puljujarvi are headed for a divorce in the form of a trade, a team source indicated the return will be a player that can help the club now. A second-round pick or later doesn’t accomplish that.Add it all up, and there’s a chance Puljujarvi will still be an Oiler by the fall.“I’m not going to give him away,” Holland said.
Nugent-Bowman’s report on a potential deal is encouraging noting that just yesterday Sportsnet’s Mark Spector suggested a return could be a second or third round draft pick.
This saga is undoubtedly a big one, and one far from being over.
