Per the Edmonton Oilers, Andrej Sekera is expected to miss six to nine months with an ACL injury.
Sekera’s ACL tear was believed to have been suffered in the series against the Anaheim Ducks.
The injury news is devastating and will mean that the Oilers will be without Sekera’s services until somewhere in the ballpark of November – February.
It is believed that Sekera was injured in game five of the series against the Ducks when Ryan Getzlaf laid what appeared to be an innocent hit on the defenceman.
Adam Larsson stepped up in his absence playing 44:58 that game.
Looking towards next season, anytime without one of the Oilers top defenders is certainly less than ideal.
While it’s soon to say, Sekera’s injury may entice the Oilers to bring back Kris Russell on a short-term deal to help fill a gap in Sekera’s absence.
