We’ve discussed this a few times before, but after this past offseason, we now have a fairly busy goaltending prospect pool. As of last night, we’ve got some movement in the goaltending system that might interest you.
Stuart Skinner, one of the most talked about prospects in the Oilers system, who began the year with the Wichita Thunder, has been reassigned to the Bakersfield Condors. In exchange, Shane Starrett has been assigned down to Wichita.
It was a surprising move when Skinner got sent down at the beginning of the season. Although no one really knew how the goalies will be positioned in the Oilers system this year, I would have expected Skinner to stay in the AHL. Well, it only took three games, and the 19-year-old has been moved up. This is well deserved for Skinner in my opinion as he has faced 111 shots in the ECHL and holds a 3-0 record, .928 S%, and 2.53 GAA.
Shane Starrett, who Skinner is replacing, has yet to play a game with the Bakersfield Condors. Al Montoya is currently the starter for the Condors and has a 2.49 GAA and .890 S% in four games. Will Skinner get some games in the American Hockey League? Or is he just being called up to play backup? Only time will tell.
