In a week of western opponents with major playoff implications, every point matters. This week the oilers took in the San Jose Sharks, the Arizona Coyotes, and then finally, the Vegas Golden Knights.
Of course, in true Oilers fashion the only game of those three that they dropped, was the most important one.
The game against the Sharks was a depth-scoring & defenceman’s affair for the Edmonton Oilers that saw two goals from Mattias Janmark, one from each of Yamamoto and Bjugstad, and finally the OT winner from Darnell Nurse.
The Sharks kept up with the Oilers all night, obviously because that’s how you end up in overtime, but I was shocked. They played well, and Reimer certainly came to play stopping 47 of 52 shots. Fortunately for the Oilers, his effort wouldn’t be enough to stop the boys from grabbing the extra point in overtime.

Wednesday, the Oilers took on the Arizona Coyotes looking to put up their fifth straight win, and they would do just that.
Now before the game, Spencer, Maddie, and I hit the streets (Ford Hall) to ask Oilers fans if Connor would score two goals in the game to hit the 60-goal mark for the first time in his career.

Here were the responses:

In what ended up feeling like the latest hockey game ever, Connor would find the back of the net as the first and final scorer of the night to hit that milestone. Our other two goals came from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who continues his career-best season and incredible hot streak.

Finally, last night we took on the Vegas Golden Knights. They came out firing and caught us flat-footed, scoring on their first shot of the night. Luckily Zach Hyman was able to respond, and the Hockey Gords would allow it to count. The game would continue to flip-flop, with the oilers playing catch-up all night. Tied or down a goal for the entire game is less than ideal, especially in a game worth four points. Unfortunately, the Oilers couldn’t break that pattern and fell 4-3 in overtime.
This week we have a week of divisional contests (and the Arizona Coyotes). This could easily prove to be the most important week this season when it comes down to playoffs.
This brings me to our Scaries and Cellys!

The Scaries:

  • The pressure of playing three divisional opponents this week is super anxiety-inducing.
  • The fanatics deal being 10 years long… but hey maybe ill be able to stop buying jerseys and save some money now?
  • Turnovers directly in front of our own goaltenders. this has been killing us lately, and not to name names but Darnell Nurse and Evan Bouchard have been quite brutal for this lately. I often find myself cringing when I see them with the puck around our net because you just never know.
  • The way people on social media reacted to the Oilers’ pride night last night. They did the bare minimum and people still couldn’t fathom supporting the LGBTQIA+ community or even shutting their mouths long enough to let the LGBTQIA+ community celebrate themselves.

Celly time!!
  • Connor McDavid is one goal away from 300 Career goals.
  • Leon Draisaitl is one goal away from 300 Career goals.
  • Evander Kane is one goal away from 300 Career goals.
  • Our offence is going crazy right now. It seems like there is no slowing down and the boys are rolling.
  • The team has been playing some great hockey in general lately.
As always, talk to me on Twitter or leave a comment here!
