For the first time in 2017, we have no significant injuries to report about. I’m not saying that the Andrew Ference and Tyler Pitlick injuries aren’t important, I’m just saying that we’ve unfortunately become accustomed to them out of our lineup. For the time being, I’m going to discuss some other injuries in the Oilers system, including the mysterious injury to Tyler Benson, who slowly went from being on prospect pedestal to people questioning Chia’s use of the second-round draft pick.
Tyler Benson, drafted last summer with our second round pick had high expectations coming into the season. I personally had him pegged to light up the AHL alongside team leader, Anton Lander. The beginning of the season looked like it was going to shape up like that with Benson putting up 42 points in 33 games with the Vancouver Giants.  Then all of a sudden Benson misses a game, then another game, and then another. Before you know it there’s only three games left in the regular season and Tyler Benson’s injury is still unknown.
Believe it or not, this wasn’t the first time Tyler Benson missed the whole second half of a season. Benson has had his own injury problems before this year, which made him a risky second-round draft to some people. He missed half of the 2015-16 season with a pelvis-bone injury. Though it hasn’t been officially released, it is believed that Benson’s injury this year is related to last year’s, and is likely in his groin/hip/nether-regions area. Or as Justin Bieber calls it, his “dick area.” Good for Justin, why beat around the bush?
So now what was supposed to be an awesome second-round pick has turned into a waste, for this season that is. If Benson’s injury will likely delay him from playing pro for another year, and will likely force the Giants to use him as one of their three 20-year old roster players for next season. This is unfortunate for everyone as I’m really looking forward to seeing him as a Condor and future Oiler.
Something we’re really not used to is having little-to-no injuries in the Oilers system. Believe it or not, Tyler Benson and our other two NHL Injury Report veterans are the only injuries to talk about right now.

Injury Report Veterans

Tyler Pitlick likely has his summer planned out already. I assume he’s crushed a thousand crossword puzzles and visited 100 local schools so far this year. He’s probably fulfilled the number of contractual community engagements needed for the next decade.
I also think it’s important to note that even though he’s been on the IR for Sidney Crosby days and is still the ninth highest goal-scorer on the team right now. He also has more even strength goals than Taylor Hall, Claude Giroux, and Ryan Getzlaf.
We can now start counting down the weeks until Andrew Ference is removed from the Injury Report. It’s been a long run, but good things always have to come to an end. For any of YOUR injury needs, be sure to check them out. Visit their website or give them a call at (780) 466-1104.
