The Capilano Rehab Injury Report: Undisclosed Injuries

I’d like to take a moment to talk about undisclosed injuries, and how incredibly boring they are.
Hearing that a player has an undisclosed injury is like watching the evening news when you already have a tradition of watching the morning news with your morning coffee. Sure the evening news is new & exciting compared to that day’s morning news segment, but it’s going to be the exact same thing in the next morning news segment. You following me?
What I’m saying, is that it’s stupid and annoying and I hate it. From a fan’s perspective, I think it’d be awesome to hear some more gushy details of Nurse’s ankle surgery, or Klefbom’s staph infection from last season. Now when I scroll through the TSN injury page, literally 89% of the players have an upper-body, lower-body, or undisclosed injury. It’s ridiculous. #FakeNews
The reason the coaches are so tight-lipped about injuries is to prevent other players in the league from ‘targeting’ those injured spots. Which I suppose is a fair reason to do it. But if a player is coming back from an injury, he may be a target whether or not it’s his leg or his armpit. No one will intentionally go out of their way to take aim at a knee, would they? We didn’t see anyone going after Matt Benning’s hurt nose last game did we? Even though they dubbed Benning’s injury as upper-body, my 5 year old niece still knew his injury was in his face.
Hiding injury status & updates have gotten much worse over the past few years and I’m quite annoyed. That’s my rant for the week, here are your Oilers injury updates:
Benoit Pouliot
Benoit Pouliot crashed violently into the boards in practice at the beginning of the week. He hasn’t skated since and will not begin the road trip with the Oilers but may catch up with them if his condition gets better.
Since we’ve got another undisclosed injury on our hands I’m going to make an executive decision here and claim he’s got a lower-body injury. WAIT! I can do better… a right knee injury! That’s right. Pou crashed knee first into the boards, bruising his knee cap and spraining his knee thingy. He just needs some rest, ice, and trainer love and he’ll be okay.

Kris Russell

Russell is now skating with the team but is still day-to-day. He will travel with the team to start the road trip and is expected to play. Russell’s injury is listed as undisclosed, but it is believed to be a groin injury.

Jujhar Khaira

JJ is still skating with the team and is day-to-day with his wrist injury. There’s no word on how soon he’ll be back but it will likely be by the end of the road trip.

Tyler Pitlick

My DEEPEST apologies to Tyler Pitlick as I may have forgot to include him in the report last year. I blame Baggedmilk, who didn’t even TRY to remind me to include him.

Darnell Nurse

Nurse still continues to skate with the team and is expected to return to the team by the end of February.
