I know this is the highlights article, but boy — there really wasn’t much in that way for the Oilers last night.
They fell 3-0 to the New York Islanders in what was a frustrating loss. Edmonton outshot them 50-30, but it wasn’t enough.
I hate to say it, but the Oilers got goalie’d. They got goalie’d.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored two tallies in the second. He got his first shorthanded beating out Tyson Barrie and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, but of whom gave him the front of the net. On a subsequent powerplay, Pageau banked one in off Evan Bouchard’s stick.
The only other goal came later in that second period when Sebastian Aho crept down from the point blasting a shot past Jack Campbell.
For the Oilers, the true highlight was Zach Hyman, who finished the night with a staggering 10 shots on goal — a career-high. He also ended up with 2.31 individual expected goals, so he undoubtedly should’ve found the back of the net in a frustrating affair.
