THE ODR PHOTOSHOP FINALISTS AND VOTING

Thanks to our friends at AMA Travel we’re going to be bringing someone to Winnipeg with us for the outdoor game, and today we begin the process of figuring out who that will be.
Before we get to the finalists and the voting, I wanted to take a quick minute to say how awesome you guys are when it comes to these contests. I honestly, couldn’t believe the level of photoshop entries that were coming in so I had a really hard time narrowing down the entries to only five or six finalists. As a result, I decided to include 10 finalists instead and even that was tough. I got so many great entries for this contest that only picking one winner seems like it’s going to be impossible, but, thankfully, that will be your job to handle. Let’s get to the finalists.
THE FINALISTS
The finalists are listed in the order that I received them.
1) HOME AWAY FROM HOME
When I said that I wanted you guys to come up with an ODR themed photoshop I never expected anyone to bring Rogers Place to Winnipeg! Not only did this photoshopper extraordinaire take the roof off the new barn he even managed to put the Stanley Cup cloud in there as a bonus. Well played!
2) ALL OF THE LEGENDS
Sure, we may never be able to see Gretzky taking a pass from Smytty and then firing it off to McDavid but that didn’t stop this photoshop hero! Can you imagine what it would be like to be Connor Hollabackgurl with these Oilers legends bearing down on him.
3) WINTER AT COUSIN BYFUGLIEN’S
Look at the way Captain Connor grabbed Lil Nugey’s hand to lead him away from the impending danger that is Dustin Byfuglien. That’s leadership, my friends. That’s the kind of guy we want leading this franchise out of the dark days. What a gentleman.
4) THE FORCE IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE
Look at Yoda sitting on the back of the net admiring Connor’s lightsaber skills. He must know that the force is coursing through the young man’s body, and that’s why he rubs his chin in wonder. Evil doers coming to invade the ODR? Challenge accepted.
5) HELMETS? WHAT FOR?
This entry reminds me of playing pond hockey in the days of yore when concussion protocol was non-existent and getting knocked out on the ice meant waiting until the cobwebs had cleared before you got back out there. I mean, look at Nugey’s smiling face as he gets in mix with his 48-pound tree trunk of a hockey stick. Simpler times, my friends. Simpler times.
6) MOVES LIKE CONNOR
I assume that Blake Wheeler was stupid enough to challenge Connor at the blue line, only to be walked and embarrassed as he trips over his own skates and falls embarrassingly to the ice. The things I love about this photoshop is that it accurately shows how foolish Connor McDavid can make established NHL players look. Why Maroon 5 hasn’t written a song about this kid is beyond me.
7) WE’RE GOIN’ STREAKING!
I love this picture. I don’t know why naked dudes running across the field at outdoor events will always be funny to me but it’s true. To take things a step further, check out the cast of characters that stripped down to invade the ice. Bunch of degenerates. Not to mention that the Devils and Penguins can’t be too happy about Hall and Schultz skipping practice to parade their naked selves in front of a national audience.
8) BLADES OF GLORY
Now, I have absolutely nothing that can confirm this but I think that Connor and Ebs would make a formidable all-male figure skating duo. With the kind of edgework these two do on a nightly basis it seems logical that they would think of expanding their skillset. Figure skating with the boys? There’s bound to be off days somewhere.
9) PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE
Sure, this entry comes from the outdoor game at Fenway park, but I can still appreciate the creativity of putting past, present, and future Oilers together in one place. Too bad ol’ Dallas is coaching in the AHL because I sure would have loved to see him get torched by the Oilers greats at the outdoor game. Not that Winnipeg would have invited him to play for their team anyway.
10) THE MCSIGNAL
Can you imagine how fast Connor could skate down a frozen North Saskatchewan? I’d bet he could skate from Edmonton to Saskatoon faster than he can turnstile NHL defenseman, and that’s fast my friend. I also like the Nation logo being projected onto the Telus building. The city needed a hero and they got one. Well played, sir.
THE VOTING…
Normally we do the voting on the side poll, but this time around I wanted the finalists and the voting all in one tidy package. When voting I ask that you choose the photoshop that you truly like the best, and try not to be swayed by campaigning or the comment section. Remember, we’re going to be bringing one of these animals with us to Winnipeg and we’re looking to put a solid crew together.
The voting will run straight through the weekend and the winner will be announced in this article, in the Wrap Up for Sunday night’s game, and on social media. Keep checking back for updates. Remember, you can only vote once so make it count.
WHAT THEY’RE PLAYING FOR
As I mentioned, we wanted to step our game up with the prizes for this contest and I think we’ve done that.
