The AHL Barons played their second game of the season last night and the rest of the Oilers’ prospect group continue playing their league seasons. A few strong arrows this week and a goodly number of struggling players, too. More after the break.
AHL
The Oklahoma City Barons played their second game of the AHL regular season Friday night, falling 3-2 to the Texas Stars. There’s not much to report, but here’s how the scoring went in the first two games.
- Ryan Hamilton 2GP, 1-2-3
- Iiro Pakarinen 1GP, 1-1-2
- Andrew Miller 2GP, 0-2-2
- Jordan Oesterle 2GP, 1-0-1
- Jason Williams 2GP, 1-0-1
- Martin Marincin 1GP, 0-1-1
- Steve Pinizzotto 1GP, 0-1-1
- Richard Bachman 1GP, 2.84 .900
- Laurent Brossoit 1GP, 3.00 .900
The veteran Hamilton has speed issues but can clearly play at this level, and the Finn Pakarinen impressed in the first game of the season. College men Miller and Oesterle are showing up early, and Marincin plus Pinizzotto have already spent time in the NHL.
Goalie Brossoit has some settling down to do, but showed reasonably well Friday night against the Stars.
CHL
- Kyle Platzer, Owen Sound (OHL) 9GP, 5-8-13 (terrific arrow)
- Jackson Houck, Vancouver (WHL) 8GP, 2-6-8
- Marco Roy, Quebec (QMJHL) 8GP, 4-4-8

- Ben Betker, Everett (WHL) 7GP, 1-3-4
- Keven Bouchard Val d’Or (QMJHL) 6GP, 3.97 .874
Platzer continues to impress, and this is after a very good Penticton camp and some good moments in main camp. Absolutely opening eyes this year. Houck and Roy are posting well and Betker’s offense is a bit of a surprise (he’s a defensive defender). Chase started slowly but is coming on, two points Friday and five points in his last three games.
NCAA
- Aidan Muir, Western Michigan (NCAA) 3GP, 0-2-2
- Evan Campbell UMass-Lowell (NCAA) 2GP, 1-1-2
- Zach Nagelvoort Michigan (NCAA) 2GP, 4.54 .864
- Tyler Vesel, Nebraska at Omaha (NCAA) 3GP, 0-0-0
- Joey Laleggia, Denver (NCAA) 1GP, 0-0-0
- John McCarron, Cornell (NCAA) first game Oct. 24
Some encouraging signs from some of the college men. Muir is a pure freshman and playing regularly early in the season, and Campbell is having a nice start to his season—opposite from last season. The big goalie Nagelvoort is struggling early on, and Laleggia is just underway.
BCJHL
- Liam Coughlin, Vernon 10GP, 3-1-4
Coughlin’s BCJHL season isn’t exactly the stuff of legends, he was a better scorer (53GP, 18-27-45) a year ago. A long way to go before we know, but the arrows aren’t headed in a good direction.
USHL
- William Lagesson, Dubuque 5GP, 0-4-4
He’s more of a defensive player, but Lagesson is enjoying a nice start to his North American career. Corey Pronman rated him, early signs are positive.
EUROPE
- Roman Horak, Vityaz Podolsk (KHL) 16GP, 8-6-14
- Anton Slepyshev, Salavat Yulaev (KHL) 18GP, 3-4-7
- Antti Tyrvainen, Ilves (SML) 9GP, 4-1-5
- Daniil Zharkov Torpedo (KHL) 6GP, 0-0-0
One is never sure if we’ll see any of these guys down the line, but it does seem Slepyshev will have a future if he can continue to score at current levels. I always liked Horak, hope we see him again at some point down the line.
