WEEKEND UPDATE

Lowetide

This week Oilers prospects lit the lamp and made significant noise, with one prospect enjoying a breakout week in his minor league career. Oscar Klefbom (photo by Rob Ferguson, all rights reserved) had a wonderful week as he builds his resume on the way to the NHL.

AHL OKLAHOMA CITY BARONS

  1. Iiro Pakarinen 6GP, 5-3-8 (2GP, 1-2-3 this week)
  2. Jason Williams 5GP, 4-3-7 (1GP, 0-1-1 this week)

  20. Richard Bachman 1GP, 2.84 .900 (NHL this week)
  21. Laurent Brossoit 2GP, 4.07 .867 (didn’t play this week)
A big week for Oscar Klebom, one would have to think a recall is possible if Niki Nikitin’s injury lingers on much longer. Anton Lander also had a strong week, but if the Oilers felt he was one of their five best options he’d be in the NHL right now.
Bogdan Yakimov suffered an upper body (believed to be shoulder) injury that looked quite severe at the time, we should find out soon if he’s out for any length of time. Laurent Brossoit also suffered back problems and missed last weekend’s games. Edmonton sent Richard Bachman and Luke Gazdic (rehab stint) so the lineup this weekend (OKC plays Saturday and Sunday) will have a different look.

CHL

  1. Kyle Platzer, Owen Sound (OHL) 14GP, 6-13-19 (1GP, 1-1-2 this week)
  2. Jackson Houck, Vancouver (WHL) 13GP, 5-10-15 (2GP, 0-2-2 this week)
  3. Greg Chase, Calgary (WHL) 13GP, 2-13-15 (2GP, 0-3-3 this week)
  4. Marco Roy, Quebec (QMJHL) 12GP, 4-6-10 (2GP, 0-0-0 this week)
  5. Ben Betker, Everett (WHL) 12 GP, 1-3-4 (3GP, 0-0-0 this week)
  6. Darnell Nurse, SSM (OHL) 3GP, 1-3-4 (1GP, 0-1-1 this week)
  7. Keven Bouchard Val d’Or (QMJHL) 9GP, 4.57 .860 (1GP, 7.50.737 this week)
Greg Chase had a quality week, he’s recovered from a slower start and now looks to have an impact leading up to the World Juniors. Kyle Platzer leads the Oilers’ junior prospects in points and is one of the biggest surprises in the organization this season. Darnell Nurse should have a big week coming up as he’ll be settled in and ready.
Vladimir Tkachev: 10GP, 4-11-15 with Moncton (QMJHL). He went 2GP, 1-2-3 this week.

NCAA

  1. Aidan Muir, Western Michigan (NCAA) 5GP, 0-2-2
  2. Evan Campbell UMass-Lowell (NCAA) 5GP, 2-4-6 (1GP, 0-0-0 this week)
  3. Zach Nagelvoort Michigan (NCAA) 3GP, 4.06 .880 (1GP, 3.06 .912 this week)
  4. Tyler Vesel, Nebraska at Omaha (NCAA) 4GP, 0-0-0
  5. Joey Laleggia, Denver (NCAA) 4GP, 1-0-1 (1GP, 0-0-0 this week)
  6. John McCarron, Cornell (NCAA)
Nothing happening with the college men last week, although it is worth noting that Zach Nagelvoort had his best outing of the year last weekend. Evan Campbell is enjoying an impact season at UMass-Lowell.

BCJHL

  1. Liam Coughlin, Vernon 13GP, 4-4-8 (1GP, 0-0-0 this week)

USHL

  1. William Lagesson, Dubuque 8GP, 0-5-5 (1GP, 0-1-1 this week)

EUROPE

  1. Roman Horak, Vityaz Podolsk (KHL) 21GP, 10-6-16 (2GP, 0-0-0 this week)
  2. Anton Slepyshev, Salavat Yulaev (KHL) 24GP, 3-4-7 (3GP, 0-0-0 this week)
  3. Antti Tyrvainen, Ilves (SML) 13GP, 4-1-5 (3GP, 0-0-0 this week)
  4. Daniil Zharkov Torpedo (KHL) 6GP, 0-0-0
This was a poor week for the Euro’s, but the good news is they’re playing (aside form Zharkov). Slepyshev has been in a prolonged slump and we may see him sit for awhile.
