By this time next week, the Bakersfield Condors will
be in regular season action, meaning all of the Oilers prospects will
be playing in leagues across the hockey world. Here is the latest from
the group already in action.

BAKERSFIELD CONDORS

Preseason
is over and the team is ready for regular season action, beginning
Tuesday. Scott Zerr will be updating Oilers Nation on the happenings and
here is the current roster:
  • 2—D Mark Fraser
  • 3—D Dillon Simpson
  • 5—D Ben Betker
  • 6—D David Musil
  • 7—C Jujhar Khaira
  • 8—D Griffin Reinhart
  • 11—W Joey Benik
  • 12—L Ryan Hamilton
  • 14—C Kyle Platzer
  • 15—D Jordan Oesterle
  • 17—D Joey Laleggia
  • 18—C Josh Currie
  • 19—L Mitch Moroz
  • 22—R Joel Rechlicz
  • 23—L Braden Christoffer
  • 25—R Greg Chase
  • 28—D Mikael Tam
  • 29—L Scott Allen
  • 31—G Laurent Brossoit
  • 34—G Nick Ellis
  • 36—R Patrick Russell
  • 39—R Jaedon Descheneau
  • 40—L Jere Sallinen
  • 41—R Taylor Beck

ECHL

  • G Eetu Laurikainen 2gp, 3.04 .910
  • RD Frank Simonelli 2gp, 0-0-0
Laurikainen lost the backup job in Bakersfield to college man Nick Ellis, and we may see him in Finland before the end of the year. Simonelli is defensive depth from Providence and signed to a minor league deal—but could be in Bakersfield for much of the season (he is a righty).

CHL

  • LW Tyler Benson, Vancouver Giants (WHL) 7gp, 5-4-9 (4gp, 5-3-8 this week, a monster)
  • LD Caleb Jones, Portland Winterhawks (WHL) 9gp, 1-6-7 (big week, 3gp, 1-3-4)
  • RD Ethan Bear, Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL) 6gp, 0-2-2 (3gp, 0-1-1 this week)
  • LD Markus Niemelainen, Saginaw Spirit (OHL) 6gp, 0-0-0 (2 games this week)
  • G Dylan Wells, Peterborough Petes (OHL) 7gp, 2.90 .923 (faced a barrage of shots in two games)
Some of these junior kids are having excellent runs. Tyler Benson had a giant week, and Caleb Jones is emerging as a bona fide prospect—both for World Juniors and pro hockey next season. Dylan Wells had two very busy games this week, is busy and posting strong numbers.

USHL

  • LD Matthew Cairns, Fargo Force 5gp, 0-0-0 (two games this week)
  • RC Aapeli Rasanen, Sioux City Musketeers 4gp, 1-1-2 (2gp, 1-1-2 this week)
Rasanen is a fine young prospect and appears to be adjusting quickly. Cairns is making a big step and probably not getting a lot of power-play time—but he is just getting started.

NCAA

  • RL Aidan Muir, Western Michigan 4gp, 0-5-5 (2gp, 0-2-2 this week)
  • L Evan Campbell, UMass-Lowell 3gp, 0-2-2 (2gp, 0-2-2 this week)
  • LD William Lagesson, UMass-Amherst 2gp, 1-0-1 (no action this week)
  • L Graham McPhee, Boston College 2gp, 0-0-0 (1gp, 0-0-0 this week)
  • LD Vincent Desharnais, Providence College 2gp, 0-0-0 (no action this week)
  • F Tyler Vesel, Nebraska-Omaha, 1gp, 0-0-0 (one game this week)
  • G Zach Nagelvoort, Michigan 1gp, 4.00 .900 (no action this week)
  • RD John Marino, Harvard University, has not played
Muir, a 2013 draft pick, is having a nice start to the year, and William Lagesson seems to be stepping up early again this campaign. Peter Chiarelli signed four college free agents last spring and summer, it will be interesting to see how the organization proceeds with its college draft picks (like Muir, and Evan Campbell).

EUROPE

  • LC-W Bogdan Yakimov, Neftekhimik (KHL) 14gp, 1-3-4 (2gp, 0-0-0 this week)
  • LD Ziyat Paigin, AK Bars Kazan (KHL) 4gp, 0-0-0 (did not play this week)
  • RD Filip Berglund, Skelleftea (SHL) 6gp, 0-0-0 (two games this week)
  • RD Filip Berglund, Skelleftea (SuperElite) 1gp, 1-1-2
  • G Miroslav Svoboda, HC Dukla Jihlava (Cze 2) 6gp, 1.48 .953 (one terrific game this week)
