Overall, the Oilers offence has produced with consistency, averaging 3.84 goals per game during a 12-4-3 run that began on New Year’s Eve. However, a recent spate of injuries finally caught up with the team against the stingy Bruins, with Oilers shooters mustering just two shots on goal in the opening frame of Wednesday’s loss. In addition, Edmonton’s lone goal against Boston came with the extra man, continuing the club’s reliance on the power play, which has produced 33% of their scoring over the past six games.
Wednesday’s loss also marked the end of Leon Draisaitl’s torrid point-scoring streak. Draisaitl had padded his lead atop the NHL scoring race with 12 points over the previous five games, and has produced steadily against the Wild, racking up 11 points over his past 10 appearances against Minnesota.
The Oilers have struggled to rack up steady results against the Wild. The team dropped a 6-5 decision as -115 chalk at online sports betting sites in a December 12 visit to Minnesota after getting shut out 3-0 in their first trip to Xcel Energy Center this season back in mid-October.
