DO YOU NEED A BOOST?

Oilers fan, do you need a reprieve from a brutal first 13 games of the season? Your team is 3-8-2 and they could officially be out of the playoff race before the Sochi Olympics. No one expected things to be this bad, but we have an event that will lift your spirits.
The 2nd Annual DJ Suitcase party has been booked.

If you came last year you know how much fun it was, and this year we have added a few fun twists.
We are having a theme party this year. In honour of DJ Suitcase, who is constantly wearing awful sweaters, we are having a Bad Christmas Sweater Party.
Struds actually wears that sweater (pictured above) out regularly, so his wardrobe is already set.

DETAILS…

When: Friday November 22nd, be there before 7:30 p.m.
Where: The Pint Off Whyte (81ave and Calgary Trail)
Theme: Bad Christmas Sweater Party….
Why: It is fun and we raise money for the Inner City Children’s Program
Cost: $30 and you get free drink, $20 GC from Oodle Noodle and $25 from the Pint.
A huge thank you to Russ Dratwa from Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management for being the Title Sponsor this year. Russ stepped up with a very large donation to the charity. Much appreciated Russ. If you need some financial advice contact Russ.
We will have a few VIP guests at the event this year. Some of Struds’ former teammates will be in attendance. We will also have two cool live auction items, and it will be a fun evening watching Struds spin some tunes with Harman B.
You can purchase your tickets here. Last year we sold out, and we expect to do the same this year. See you then.
**You must be 18 years of age to attend.**

QUICK HITS…

  • Richard Bachman played great last night, and he should start Tuesday against the Leafs. Last season he had a .885 SV% in 13 games with the Dallas Stars, so he needs to have more than one outstanding game before he is a lock to stay here. That being said, if he plays decent he likely will surpass Jason LaBarbera who has yet to have one above average game all year.

  • Risky trade for the Garth Snow and the Islanders. They trade pending UFA Matt Moulson for another pending UFA Tomas Vanek, however, the Islanders also gave up a 1st and 2nd round pick.
Over the past four seasons and the beginning of this year Moulson has scored 118 goals and 223 points. Vanek has scored 110 goals and 237 points. Vanek is a better player, no doubt, but he is that much better that you would sacrifice a 1st and 2nd round pick without any guarantee that he stays on Long Island past this season? I give Snow credit for taking the chance, but it is a risky one. The Islanders needed another elite forward and Vanek is a much better all-around player than Moulson.

  • Are your needs being met? I suspect most Oiler fans would say they aren’t, which is odd, because that is a line guys rarely use. I explain here.
  • NON-SPORTS THOUGHT OF THE WEEK….

If our society or school system is looking at ways to try and limit early parenthood in teens and young adults, then why don’t they show those kids the videos they show us in prenatal classes?
I had the pleasure of going to prenatal class yesterday, and I guarantee those videos would work great. Thankfully my wife is already pregnant, or we might never have tried getting pregnant after watching those.
Don’t get me wrong, the session was very informative, but watching a baby come out of someone else’s vagina is something I’d rather never see again. Like a bad car crash I couldn’t look away. If the visual didn’t get you, the audio likely did. It was quite the experience and for those who have yet to go, I guarantee you won’t forget what you saw.
If I’m a teacher of sex education and I want to encourage young people to think twice about unprotected sex, I’d show them that video. I’m sure it would work.
Lastly, was I the only one who felt the videos were a touch outdated?
