Leon Draisaitl was an absolute warlord in tonight’s game and there was no better case than the goal he scored in the first period.
After Draisaitl picked up the puck on the half-boards, he absolutely turnstiled most of the Avalanche players before ripping a backhander past Semyon Varlamov to give the Oilers a one-goal lead. Quite frankly, you’ll be seeing this goal for a long time and it will definitely show up in the best goals of the year when all is said and done. For Draisaitl, it’s amazing how he made walking around a handful of NHLers look like it was just another day at the office and I really hope he can find a way to pull this kind of stuff off consistently.
I mean, how can you not watch this goal and be awestricken by the sheer display of skill and finesse from the Deutschland Dangler? I’ve probably watched this highlight 50 times at this point and don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. Maybe tomorrow morning I’ll check it out again as I try to get up for the Canada/Germany game. Regardless, this was a filthy goal by Draisaitl and here’s hoping he can keep finding ways to amaze us. Well played, sir.
