In their next game, a 7-4 victory over the Anaheim Ducks, Mattias Ekholm completed a hat trick of his own by firing it into an empty net in the dying seconds of the game.

This is the only time in National Hockey League history that defencemen scored a hat trick in back-to-back games for the same team. The Oilers also saw four goals by defencemen in the second period, the first time that had happened since 2000.
