Edmonton returns to action after turning in middling results in the preseason, posting wins in just three of seven overall contests including victories in two of four home dates ahead of Wednesday’s game at Rogers Place.

Canucks at Oilers | OddsShark Matchup Report

Goal scoring came at a premium for the Oilers during their September schedule. Edmonton mustered two or fewer goals in five of the team’s seven preseason outings, including three of four home contests. With the team closing out last season with just 11 total goals scored over their final six contests, concerns linger as to who will do the scoring in Edmonton this season.
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl combined for 91 goals for the Oilers last season. However, apart from veteran James Neal, few reinforcements were brought on board during the offseason to provide complementary scoring.
That may not be a problem against the Canucks, however. The Oilers have dominated in recent home dates with Vancouver, posting wins in seven of nine meetings since November 2014, according to the OddsShark NHL Database, while limiting the Canucks to just 1.88 goals per game during that stretch
The Canucks look to build on a steady finish to last season, and arrive in Edmonton for Wednesday night’s season opener as +115 underdogs at online betting sites. Vancouver showed signs of taking the next step by finishing last season on a respectable 7-5-1 run, and bolstered its roster in the offseason by signing free agents Tyler Myers and Micheal Ferland.
The team also sports a talented young core led by reigning Rookie of the Year Elias Petterson along with Quinn Hughes, Bo Horvat, and Brock Boeser, but struggled in lopsided losses to Ottawa and Arizona to close out their preseason schedule. That has done little to boost the Canucks’ position on the Stanley Cup odds, where they continue to lag at +4000.
