Edmonton Oilers forward Alex Chiasson has cleared waivers and will remain with the organization.
Edmonton placed the veteran forward on waivers Monday, and nobody took the Stanley Cup champion. There were some rumblings the Ottawa Senators would have interested, but clearly nothing formulated.
It’s likely that his $2.15-million cap hit detered teams, doubly so considering he’s really struggled to start this season. He’s appeared in six of 11 Oilers games, and hasn’t registered a point despite more than enough opportunity being gifted ample powerplay time.
He’s another Oilers player to add to the list that has cleared waivers this year. Jujhar Khaira, Joakim Nygard, Devin Shore, Patrick Russell, Tyler Ennis and now Chiasson has cleared.
In a way, it works out well for the Oilers who now have lots of ability when it comes to moving players between their 23-man roster and the taxi squad.
