The Edmonton Oilers have made their first slew of training camp cuts, the club announced Saturday.

It kicked off with three players being assigned to their respective Canadian Hockey League teams: Tyler Tullio to the Oshawa Generals, Matvey Petrov to the North Bay Battalion, and Jake Chiasson to the Brandon Wheat Kings.

It’s going to be big years for all three. Tullio, who earned an entry-level deal with the Oilers, will be the captain of the Generals. Petrov will join the Battalion for his first season of hockey in North America after scoring 42 points in 58 games in the MHL last year. Lastly, Chiasson, who was a little banged up in camp, will be relied on to take a step forward in his game.

The Oilers made a few other moves releasing Drew Englot, Henry Rybinski, Brady Burns, and Ethan Kruger from amateur tryouts. Of them, the only one that really jumped out to me was Rybinski. He shined in Oilers rookie camp scoring multiple goals in rookie games, and his frame fits the mold the Oilers are looking for at 6’1, 185 lbs.

Nonetheless, it reduces the Oilers camp roster down to 54 players.
