If there’s one thing that Edmonton hockey fans have been lucky to see, it’s the insane development of Leon Draisaitl.

It was clear there was a very talented player there at third overall in the 2014 draft but to see him produce the way he has taken even his biggest supporters by surprise.

He’s amassed 443 points in 433 NHL games seven seasons into his career and has exploded with offensive production in the last three seasons.

So much so, that he’s broken a 25-year old scoring record. As pointed out by The Athletic’s Thomas Drance on Twitter last night, Leon Draisaitl has scored 131 points in his last 82 NHL games dating back to the start of the 2019-20 season.

This is the first time that an NHL player has amassed 130 points over an 82-game stretch since Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr both did so in the 1995-96 season. The next most productive player not named Connor McDavid over this 82-game stretch has 24 fewer points.

To say he’s been playing well as of late is an understatement.
