Edmonton Oilers picks for NHL Draft weekend

The NHL Draft kicking off tonight in Vancouver, so I figured I would do a quick run through of where the Oilers will be picking in every round. Will Holland try to add picks? Will he stand pat? We’re only a few hours away from finding out.
Heading into draft weekend, the Oilers currently sit with six picks through seven rounds with three of those selections happening in the first 90 spots. With this being Ken Holland’s first draft as the Oilers’ GM, it will be interesting to watch what his approach will be to stocking the shelves. Will he sit tight and use the six picks he has, or will he be looking to wheel and deal to try and give his scouts more at-bats?
Here’s where we’re at:
Round | Pick # |
1 | 8 |
2 | 38 |
3 | 85 (from New York Islanders) |
4 | 100 |
5 | N/A (traded for Hayden Hawkey) |
6 | 162 |
7 | 193 |
If there was one thing that Peter Chiarelli actually did a decent job at while he was here it was replenishing the depth on the back end, and I’ll be waiting to see if that means we’ll see a bunch of forwards picked over the course of the weekend.
