A talented prospect has made his way to the pro ranks.

On Thursday, the Bakersfield Condors, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, announced that forward David Lewandowski signed an amateur tryout to join the team for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

Lewandowski made his AHL debut on Thursday night, earning an assist on a second-period goal by Viljami Marjala and taking a shot on goal.

The Düsseldorf, Germany native was originally taken by the Oilers in the fourth round, 117th overall, of the 2025 NHL Draft. It came after a promising rookie season with the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League, scoring 15 goals and 39 points in 52 games. He followed that up with an impressive sophomore campaign this season. In 57 games, Lewandowski delivered 17 goals and 48 assists for 65 points, while amassing 42 penalty minutes. In 11 playoff games, he added another four goals and five assists for nine points, though Saskatoon was swept by the Prince Albert Raiders in the second round.

In 109 games with the Blades across two seasons, the 19-year-old has posted 32 goals and 72 assists for 104 points, totaling 11 points in 15 postseason games.

Standing at 6-foot-2, Lewandowski has the size and reach to protect the puck, creating scoring chances with his physical ability. While he can be a playmaker, his exceptional release could make him a touted goal scorer.

Along with his junior career and a brief stint with Düsseldorfer EG of DEL in his native Germany, Lewandowski has an extended international career as he’s climbed the developmental ranks. He helped the German men’s under-18 earn promotion to the top division of the IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship after winning Division 1A gold in 2024. He’s represented Germany at the 2023 and 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cups and 2025 and 2026 IIHF World Junior Championships.

Lewandowski will get a chance to play some meaningful hockey, as Bakersfield is in the Calder Cup Playoffs for the fourth time in the past five years. The Condors are fighting for home-ice advantage in the first round, as they sit just two points back of the Coachella Valley Firebirds for fourth.
