The Edmonton Oilers have re-signed defenceman Brett Kulak to a four-year contract with an AAV of $2.75-million.
This according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
Kulak, 28, joined the Oilers in a trade deadline deal this year and was a near-perfect fit in the lineup. He appeared in 18 games with the team scoring two goals and eight points, and was a huge part of helping to stabilize the Oilers’ backend.
He played alongside Tyson Barrie for the majority of his time and truly helped his game, too.
Bringing Kulak back to Edmonton was a massive need for the team. With Duncan Keith retiring and Kulak heading to the market, Edmonton’s left side of their defence got thin very quickly.
The Oilers allowed Kulak to head to the market and see what was out there, but it’s clear he didn’t like what he saw. Instead, he rejoins the Oilers and is a safe bet to play on the Oilers’ second pairing alongside Evan Bouchard.
Now, the shift will focus for the Oilers to more depth moves to fill out the rest of their roster. Rumours continue to swirl the team is looking at Connor Brown in a deal.
