Edmonton Oilers sign Cam Dineen to two-year extension

The Edmonton Oilers have made their first offseason transaction, signing defenceman Cam Dineen to a two-year contract extension.
The deal, according to the team, will be a two-way contract paying him an AAV of $775,000.
Dineen was acquired by the Oilers in a March 2023 deal alongside Nick Bjugstad from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a 2023 3rd-round pick and prospect Michael Kesselring, the latter of whom the Utah Hockey Club re-signed Friday, as well.
He drew in for 19 games with the Condors down the stretch run of that season, scoring two goals and 12 points, and another point in two playoff games. This year, he appeared in 58 games with the Condors, scoring five goals and 25 points, ranking third among Bakersfield defencemen in assists and points.
The 26-year-old left-shot blueliner was drafted by the Coyotes in the third round of the 2016 draft, and has played in 34 NHL games, all in Arizona during the 2021-22 season, scoring seven assists. Since turning pro, he’s played in 284 AHL games between the Tuscon Roadrunners and Condors, scoring 25 goals and 127 points.
Dineen doesn’t figure to provide much more than American League depth for the Oilers, but became a key piece of the Condors’ blue line last season.

Never give up on a prospect. Never do it. Until he decides enough is enough. That applies to Cam Dineen. His skating is NHL calibre, no question. It can take him places. However, he needs to find some strength in his game and some bite, but both are not monumental tasks. They are in Cam Dineen’s control.
No question that the left side of the Oilers defence group is stacked up pretty good. However, as we saw with the right side, it can open up very quickly. Cam Dineen just needs to be read if it happens.
