The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Devin Shore and defenceman Ryan Stanton to professional tryouts.
Both players will arrive in Edmonton ahead of training camp opening Sunday.
Shore, 26, split time last year with the Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets scoring five goals and 12 points in 45 games. Stanton, 31, meanwhile, played 36 games for the AHL’s Ontario Reign but inked a deal with the Bakersfield Condors for the 2020-21 season.
Stanton is no stranger to Edmonton’s system having spent the 2017-18 and 2018-19 season with the Condors.
According to HockeyViz.com, Shore struggled at even-strength last season. Offensively he contributed at a one percent rate below league average and defence at an eight percent rate below league average.
He was a fourth-liner for the overwhelming majority of the season between the Ducks and Blue Jackets, and I’m not sure he brings enough to replace any of the other forwards attending Oilers camp.
Given that Stanton is 31 and hasn’t played an NHL game since January 19th, 2016, he’s a far fetch to earn a contract with the Oilers. He will, however, be able to get re-acquainted with the Oilers system and be able to get to know some of the players who he’ll place with on the Condors.
