The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Eduards Tralmaks to a one-year, $850,000 contract, the club announced Wednesday.
The undrafted 29-year-old spent the 2025-26 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League and put up solid offensive numbers. The Latvian scored 26 goals and 42 points in 64 games to finish fourth in team scoring this past season.
Some people may remember Tralmaks’ name from the Winter Games in February as a member of the Latvian Olympic team. In Milan-Cortina, Tralmaks scored three goals and an assist in four games at the tournament.
He’s never played an NHL game in his career.
Instead, he’s been a journeyman of professional hockey, after playing four years of collegiate hockey with the University of Maine from 2017-18 to 2020-21. He played parts of three seasons with the Providence Bruins and has suited up for 151 career AHL games, as well as three career games in the ECHL with the Maine Mariners.
Before heading back to North America, Tralmaks went overseas to play two seasons in Czechia with the Kladno Knights. He played 100 games with the Knights, scoring 44 goals and 83 points.
The Oilers had a busy start to free agency, with the most significant move shipping out Darnell Nurse to the San Jose Sharks for Shakir Mukhamadullin and defensive prospect Zack Sharp without retaining any of his $9.25 million cap hit.
Edmonton also signed former Pittsburgh Penguins blueliner Ryan Shea to a five-year contract worth $4 million annually to help fill the gaps on the left side. In goal, the Oilers used a 2028 third-round pick to acquire prospect Devon Levi from the Buffalo Sabres. Edmonton also got a seventh-round pick in 2028, as well.
With more cap space created by the Nurse trade, general manager Stan Bowman could be busier than anticipated in the next few hours and days, creating a total of roughly $16 million in room after the veteran defenceman as moved.
