The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Colton Sceviour to a professional tryout.

Sceviour, 32, spent last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he appeared in 46 games scoring five goals and 10 points while averaging 9:35 TOI per game.

Drafted by the Dallas Stars in the fourth round of the 2007 draft, Sceviour has appeared in 500 NHL games with the Penguins, Stars and Flordia Panthers. He played in some AHL action earlier in his career within the Stars organization playing 348 games scoring 99 goals and 240 points.

In his time with the Penguins last year, he had solid isolated impacts for a fourth-liner. His even-strength offence was nothing to write home about at two percent below league average, but he contributed defence at a three percent rate above league average.

His underlying analytics were solid, too. At 5×5, the Penguins controlled 49.39 percent of the shot share, 48.28 percent of the goals scored and 47.79 percent of the expected goal share all with a below average 98.5 PDO.

If he were to earn a contract, Sceviour could be a solid depth player for the team but I wonder if his limited success as a penalty killer could limit him.
