According to Sportsnet’s John Shannon, Oscar Klefbom will be okay for tomorrow’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, which is great news considering he left last night’s game after taking a slash in the third period against the Nashville Predators.
With eight minutes left to go in the third period, Oscar Klefbom took a pretty solid slash by Viktor Arvidsson and looks to be the last instance of contact that we could find. As you’ll see in the clip below, Arvidsson swung his stick with some velocity but didn’t really connect with Klefbom’s hand. Could the vibrations from the stick have run up the shaft and bothered Klef somehow?
Take a look:
As you can see in the clip, Arvidsson takes a pretty healthy cut with his stick here but he doesn’t connect with Klefbom in a way that would have injured him. Then again, the dude is probably still recovering from broken fingers so it wouldn’t take a whole lot of contact for those digits to feel sensitive.
About a minute later, Klefbom took another slash on the hands and this one certainly looked like it hurt. As you can see, Klefbom doubles over in pain after taking a stick to the hands, but he did manage to come back for another shift aftward.
Regardless of when he actually got hurt, the good news is that it won’t be enough to keep him out of tomorrow’s game against the Leafs. It’s pretty obvious at this point just how much the Oilers need Klefbom to succeed and having him avoid anything that would have kept him out of the lineup can only be considered good news.
