The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to maintain the momentum they had gained prior to the all-star break when they renew their Battle of Alberta rivalry with the Calgary Flames on Wednesday as -120 home favorites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton has enjoyed a 10-day break since posting a 7-3 win over Arizona on January 18 that marked the club’s third straight win on home ice going into Wednesday night’s matchup at Rogers Place.
Flames at Oilers | OddsShark Matchup Report
After struggling through December, the Oilers have returned to contention in the hard-fought Pacific Division. Edmonton went 4-8-1 through its first 13 December contests, but the team has turned things around since, going 6-1-1 over its past eight contests, and now sits just three points back of the division-leading Vancouver Canucks.
The Oilers offense has been clicking during their eight-game surge, averaging 4.63 goals per game, with their recent victory over the Coyotes as -115 home chalk marking the second time they have scored seven goals in a game during that stretch. Just as important has been the team’s steady play between the pipes. With goaltender Mike Smith getting the call in six of their past eight games, the Oilers have allowed just 3.00 goals per game despite being outshot in six of those contests.
However, the Oilers’ recent strong play has failed to lift the team’s position on the NHL futures at betting sites. While Edmonton remains a -200 wager to make the playoffs for the first time in three years, the club continues to lag in fifth on the Pacific Division odds as a +400 wager, and remains stalled at +2200 on the Stanley Cup odds.
The Flames make the trip to Edmonton pegged as +100 road underdogs for Wednesday night’s contest despite tallying wins in six of their past eight meetings with the rival Oilers. Calgary has already picked up a pair of victories over the Oilers this season, romping to a 5-1 victory in Edmonton as a -105 underdog on December 27 before following up with a narrow 4-3 victory as -145 home chalk on January 11.
Calgary has held the Oilers to just 14 total goals during their current 6-2-0 head-to-head run. However, the Flames have struggled overall in recent road dates, scoring just six total goals while dropping two of their past four away from Scotiabank Saddledome.
