The Edmonton Oilers will rekindle their Battle of Alberta rivalry with Calgary when they return to action against the Flames on Friday as +100 home underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The week’s Christmas break couldn’t arrive soon enough for Edmonton, which has fallen to defeat in seven of nine contests going into Friday night’s matchup at Rogers Place. The Oilers are coming off a 4-2 loss in Vancouver last time out on Monday night, and have also struggled on home ice, going 2-5-2 in their past nine while scoring two or fewer goals in six of those outings.

Secondary scoring continues to be a massive concern for the club. The duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have accounted for almost 37% of all Oilers goals this season, and just four Oilers skaters have scored more than seven markers. But with opposing shooters potting four or more goals in eight of Edmonton’s past 14 contests, the team has produced uneven results in totals betting, with the UNDER going 7-6-1 during that stretch.
With the offense sputtering and wins getting increasingly scarce, the Oilers have fallen from their perch atop the Pacific Division standings, returning to action in third place, just a single point up on the Flames. However, the team has enjoyed some success against Calgary, posting a 3-1 win on the road in their last meeting back on April 6. The Oilers have also earned two points in six of their last eight home dates with the Flames, according to the OddsShark NHL Database, including four victories by a single goal.
The Flames are also looking to rebound as they return to action in Friday’s contest as -120 road favorites at online sports betting sites. The team is coming off a 3-0 loss in Minnesota as a +110 wager on Monday, marking their fourth loss in five games. Like the Oilers, Calgary has struggled to find the back of the net in recent outings, scoring just nine total goals during a 1-3-1 run that has featured a pair of shutout defeats.
However, despite Monday’s loss to the Wild the Flames have performed well in recent dates on the road, posting wins in five of their past seven. And with just three points separating them from the top of the divisional standings, the Flames have rebounded to a +450 wager to repeat as Pacific Division champions.
